Growing fruits and vegetables in limited space at home

Growing and planting  fresh fruits and vegetables on your own is a fun activity, especially in India’s multiple seasons. But for homeowners with limited or small space, don’t despair. We have  tips  for you to aspire to be a home gardener there.

  1. Organise the space
The most important thing to consider when planning an indoor planting is the space in your home. However, there are times when it is important to customise the apartment to save space, not the size of the apartment. If you live in a small house or apartment, here are some ways you can plant it indoors.
    • Container gardening
It is the basis of all kinds of gardening. With a container, you can plant almost any plant. It is also very space-saving and the plants are easy to move due to sunlight.
    • Vertical gardening
Is the floor area small? Move vertically. If you don’t have an outdoor area or large windowsill, consider a vertical garden.
    • Hanging planter
Hanging plants is also a great way to save space. Recycling can also save the planet and your budget. Don’t forget to place it in a sunny place. A few hours of morning sun is enough for the plants, so find a place to hit the morning sun.
  2. Start growing simple plants
Yes, once you have the small space available, you’ll want to plant all kinds of varieties for the next Sunday’s brunch. But start by taking a slow, deep breath and slowly building a garden. There are certain fruits and vegetables that can be grown during any season. Therefore, choose the best plant type for your future cooking plans wisely. The vegetables that are easy to grow at home are:
    • Tomatoes
    • Chillies
    • Herbs
    • Lemons
    • Eggplant
  3. Choose the right soil and water every day
Choosing your soil is the most important step in growing a plant as it determines the success of your plant. Almost all plants can be easily grown by watering them daily and preparing the soil. To determine if your plant needs more water, you can simply stab your finger in the soil to check the water level.
Roots need water, so make sure that water reaches the roots at all times, not just the topsoil.
  4. Clean & Sort plantation on a regular basis
It is also very important to remove weeds from the garden on a regular basis. Weeds are a nuisance and will compete with you when growing crops for food, water and sunlight, especially if your workspace is limited. One thing to keep in mind is to never compost after weeding. The seeds attach to the roots and can be re-grown using compost.

When it comes to sustainable living, there are many less, and you can build a garden in a small space. Stick to plants that bring out your favourite scent. Or choose a vegetable you’ve never tried before.
